PASSENGER BOARDING BRIDGES
Our passenger boarding bridges, individually designed for each destination, give passengers an excellent customer experience right in the terminal. Tailor-made solutions ensure optimal traffic flow between the ship and the port facility in all conditions.
Efficient Ship Loading and Unloading
Passenger ferry traffic in particular places a lot of expectations on boarding stages. Ships often stay in ports for only a short time, so passengers must arrive and depart safely and effortlessly. PBBs are dimensioned according to traffic volume to avoid unnecessary congestion. Our bridges are always designed in such a way that their structure and operating height also take into account the needs of other operators and users in the port, such as stevedores.
Boarding bridges are most often of the so-called floating bridge type. These continuously monitor the movements of the vessel, regardless of the height of the water or the position of the vessel in relation to the berth. Such bridge types ensure that any changes in conditions can be monitored at all times. The most critical changes in terms of equipment safety can be compensated for automatically.
The needs of both the port personnel and the ship’s crew are taken into account in the guidance of the boarding bridges. Bridge monitoring can be implemented either locally or remotely. This facilitates ease of use. The bridge is controlled either from a control panel attached to the bogie frame from the platform level, or by means of radio control from a device placed in the inner element. The design of the electrical and control equipment in the installations are focused on safety and reliability. The equipment is designed to operate fully under all conditions. For example, the backup power system ensures that the use of the bridge can also be guaranteed during a possible power failure.
In this type of passenger boarding bridge, the upper rails are attached to the feed corridor structures and only the lower rails are on the ground. Thanks to its structure, the bridge can be sited in place effortlessly, even when space is tight. PBBs serve all different types of vessels. The guide rails allow the lateral movement of the boarding bridge, so that the bridge can always be easily positioned in the right place in relation to the outer doors of the ship.
The height position of the PBB can be adjusted according to the height of the ship, so that the bridge is at the right for the ship’s decks. Water height variations can also be taken into account by adjusting the bridge by raising or lowering as needed. Separate boarding bridges are always run on their own rails, so that bridges of the right size and height can always be placed in the required location.
Design in focus
The design of the boarding bridges takes into account the existing port architecture. A rain cover is placed between the bridge and the supply corridor, which prevents e.g., access to water and snow inside the gangway. The abundant glass use of the bridges facilitates their unobtrusive integration into the terminal and enables passengers to have a more pleasant shipping experience.
Most of the gangways we manufacture are movable on rails. Both rails can be located on the ground, but often to save space, the upper rails are attached to the terminal / feed corridor structures. This bridge category includes Single-level deck and Double-deck (DD) Bridges of different heights.
The boarding gear is made up of 3 large steel units:
1) Tripod: a frame structure that is driven longitudinally by a platform using electric motors.
2) Outer element: a ramp structure attached to a stand with hinges, which can be raised and lowered by means of lifting screws.
3) Internal element: a movable, fully covered steel access corridor between the boarding bridge and the ship. The element is moved and lifted into the side booms of the vessel by means of a hydraulic motor. In a DD bridge, the internal elements are placed on top of each other and can be driven together or separately.
Smooth ship loading and unloading
For passenger ferry traffic, it is important that the ship visits the port smoothly and without delays. Usually, ship loading and unloading operations take place from different decks. In many ports, two boarding bridges of different heights are used at the same time, which makes boarding and disembarking easier when outbound and inbound traffic do not meet. In a DD passenger boarding bridge with a double deck structure, both bridges can be driven separately or together as required.
Strong Project Expertise in Passenger Boarding Bridges
We supply boarding bridges as a complete package, from design to installation and maintenance. We have long experience of working on projects of different sizes, making us a reliable partner for both individual equipment orders and larger projects. The starting point can be either the technical requirements provided by the customer, or we design and deliver the bridges as turnkey projects based on to the customer’s initial data. Our typical customers are shipowners and various port facilities.
High Quality Products
We are responsible for the high quality of our products and their suitability for the needs, and we deliver these through careful design, 3D modeling and a high-quality manufacturing process. The materials we use are hard-wearing, such as painted or hot-dip galvanized structural steel. We supply boarding bridges with CE marking in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EG and, in addition, they are manufactured in accordance with the regulations for load-bearing structures EXC3.
